F 10.11.13
- on my birthday, Jake gifted me with this cute little box inside a box inside a box with a note saying: "Let's go to Tigre"
- so here we are...boarding the Tren de la Costa from Olivos
- we got into town and walked over to Hotel Villa Victoria, where we settled in and decided to stick around for a relaxing night in and enjoyed dinner in their cozy dining room:
- we slept a bit the next morning and stumbled our way to a late breakfast...coffee, juice, rolls, cereal, yogurt, toast, jams...a nice spread
- we then hung around the hotel to relax and read
- then walked along the river in search of a light lunch
- we didn't want a big sit-down place, so we went with a more bar-style restaurant where we could order sandwiches and fries, while also being able to sit outside and enjoy the river view
- and maybe we got some ice cream too (photo taken right before the whole top scoop almost toppled to the ground...good thing I was swift and saved that valuable bocha)
- we walked back along the river and stopped to lay in the grass for a bit and enjoy the nice spring weather
- next we headed over to Museo de Arte Tigre, housed in a beautiful, historical building built in 1909, that was once used as a sort of clubhouse/casino/hotel
- I thought the second story terrace/balcony overlooking the river would be a perfect location for a wedding reception
- ...it did get a little windy up there though
- then we walked back to the hotel for more R&R before our dinner reservations at Almacen de Flores
- let me tell you...this was my kind of place...
- from the yummy bread basket...to the candles...to the fresh flowers...
- to the fake fireplace TV on the wall (haha, kind of kidding) to the mismatched chairs, tables, and sweet sofa
- they also had this handsome guy sitting there ;) reading the cool chalkboard menu on the wall
- I chose a lettuce salad with salmon, Jake got the bondiola (pork) with mashed sweet potatoes and greens
- we figured they were bound to have good desserts, so we shared a lemon mousse bar with a cafe con leche
- I was tempted to go back here the next day for coffee or lunch...because it was just so darn cute
- here are some photos from the little side alley-way:

- we slept in a tiny, then felt like getting our sweat on a bit...Jake went for a baby run, me for a baby walk along the river
- we met back, got cleaned up, ate breakfast and checked out
- then we made our way to Tigre's famous Puerto de Frutos, a pretty cool large outdoor market with stands selling all kinds of stuff...
this place was called "Waffles of the World"...these are waffles? |
- we then walked to the nearby train station to head back and decided to get off at the San Isidro stop to walk around a bit and grab lunch before heading home
M 10.14.13
- Monday was a holiday, Día del Respeto a la Diversidad Cultural, or Columbus Day...which was great because then we had one recovery day = the cherry on top to a perfect birthday weekend!
- I even got in the fall/pumpkin mood (though of course, it's spring here) and turned our butternut squash into a pumpkin cake! (...same delectable torta as last year)
baby bump @ 34 weeks, 6 days...size of a butternut squash! |
- thanks for a great birthday celebration weekend, husband...I hope you know how great you are! ;)
(more about all he's done this "birthday month" in an upcoming post...I think some of you may have been in on his wonderful little plan ;)
