NAVIDAD

12.25.12
Merry Christmas! Feliz Navidad!
  • today we fly out to Bariloche...but not until later in the afternoon
  • so we slept in, then enjoyed some of the nature surrounding our hotel

  • including Lago Argentino

  • and Laguna Nimez, Reserva Ecologica

  • can you spot the flamingos?

  • view from the other side of them taking off

  • in flight

  • snacks and sandwiches lunch stop

  • that afternoon we flew to San Carlos de Bariloche
  • aka Bariloche...a town influenced by Germans, Austrians, and apparently Italians from Belluno...crazy!
  • nestled into the foothills of the Andes, on the southern shores of Nahuel Huapi Lake...filled with nature buffs in the summer, ski bunnies in the winter, and delicious chocolate year-round...city was built to have an alpine feel...very mini-Switzerland
  • checked in to our hotel (first hiccup of the trip...were supposed to be at Dazzler, travel agency switched us over to  Kenton Palace Hotel when we arrived...ended up being great! nice place, good location, excellent breakfast, and chocolates brought to your room daily...score!)
  • then we walked around in search for a Christmas meal
  • found this place around the corner that was open and had availability...so we went with it
  • I sampled the roast beast (wild boar? a local speciality)

  • and Mary and Paul enjoyed their first parillada completa

  • topped off with a dessert sampler platter...and wouldn't be Christmas without some Baileys

  • Bariloche-exploration schedule for mañana!
