Parque Nacional Torres Del Paine, Chile

Sa 12.22.12
  • picked up and taken to this garbage truck-looking vehicle for our excursion into Chile

  • weren't sure if we were jealous or thankful that we weren't traveling for days in a vehicle like this:

the back part being pulled is the sleeping quarters
  • weather was a bit rough at times, but we dodged the rain while outside...just got mostly clouds, unlike this guy:

poor gaucho
  • sheep crossing

  • we made a quick tourist stop for a guanaco photo shoot

  • and got out to do some hiking through the park, once crossing over into Chile

  • on our drive over to some other hiking spots, we chowed on the provided lunch (HUGE buns!)

  • Jake later regrets consuming this:

  • continued on with cloudy, albeit great views

the mother-in-law bush, aerial shot
  • heard unfortunate stories about tourists accidentally starting massive fires in the park...very sad to see the parched trees, and interesting to imagine what the park would've looked like before

  • waterfall viewing

I'm a nerd

  • so I think behind these clouds...
  •  you're supposed to see this:
thanks, Wikipedia: TORRES DEL PAINE
  • instead, we saw this:

  • but not bad, eh?
  • and our pretty awesome tour guide did a whole little diorama in the sand of how the torres, lakes, and glaciers were all formed...he's a good teacher

  • they get some strong winds down in those parts...

  • after another amazing day, it was time to sit down to a warm meal
  • we heard great things about Mi Rancho, a cute tiny husband/wife-ownded restaurant in an old, little house

  • we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, vino, postres
  • after surely viewing (at least part of) a Christmas movie back at the hotel, it was lights out for another adventure-filled day
