An Iowan and Wisconsinite found themselves in Buenos Aires, Argentina for two years.
He did some commercial insurance brokering, she did some English teaching, then they moved back to Chicago with a baby porteño.

amigos visit BA

  • FYI: Spring (October/November) is a GREAT time to be in BA...check out these trees?
  • when jacaranda trees are in bloom, they are full of these beautiful, fragrant violet flowers...love

Th 11.15.12
  • we hosted our first visitors!
  • two of Jake's Aon friends from Chicago arrived late this evening
F 11.16.12
  • we ate lots of beef at Campobravo
  • then they destroyed us...starting with  Frank's Bar (need a secret password to get in...you enter through a phone booth where you have to dial the password to get through...crazy!)
  • then continuing on to a boliche (aka disco or night club...people don't start showing up 'til around 2am)
  • fast forward to 5am
  • we left a pitch black club to enter broad daylight where we caught a cab to McDonald's...ate breakfast (very angry they weren't selling egg bagel sandwiches until 8am) and went to bed around 6:30am
Sa 11.17.12
  • managed to drag ourselves out of bed and spent the afternoon enjoying brunch on our patio, strolling around Recoleta, then preparing for night #2
  • didn't plan on a repeat of last night but...
  • after this amazing Armenian dinner/performance:

great ice cream...mmm...
  • we somehow found ourselves at another boliche...that could be summed up by the following photos:

Lady Gaga's concert was the night before...this isn't her

walking home at 6am...normal in BA
  • (Happy Birthday Meg!)
Su 11.18.12
  • so...we slept until 5pm-ish
  • went to "lunch"? at Voulezbar...yum
  • then prepared for La Cabrera's steak dinner
  • you know your meal's going to be good when you sit down to a silver cow plate and giant steak knife...I'm drooling
  • terribly blurry group shot...but best I've got
  • holy COW!

M 11.19.12
  • Jake and Becky go to work...chicos explore
  • we met up later for pizza at Pizzeria Guerrin (so cheesy and delicious)
  • discussed whether or not the union strikes would effect their flight the following morning
  • decided if they left early enough, they'd be ok
Tu 11.20.12
  • they left ok...and made it back to the United States of Amazing (stole this wonderful USA synonym from The Argentina Independent Weekly News Roundup...if you're ever curious about what's going on down here, have a look...his info. is hilarious)
  • WE LOVED HAVING VISITORS!
  • Thanks Anthony and Nolan for being such great first guests...you're welcome back ANYTIME!
