An Iowan and Wisconsinite found themselves in Buenos Aires, Argentina for two years.
He did some commercial insurance brokering, she did some English teaching, then they moved back to Chicago with a baby porteño.
Here's their little story...

Mendoza Día 4

Tu 11.27.12
  • so it's our last day...really wanted to check out Aconcagua, but decided since we had to be at the airport by about 4:00, we didn't want to be rushing
  • *next time ;)*
  • this time, we decided to go through Argentina Rafting to do some adventure stuff
  • our scenic mountain view on our drive south...

  • Rafting Argentina has quite the setup nestled nicely into the mountains
  • neither of us had tried zip lining, so we opted to give it a go
  • this is me trying to pretend that I'm tough (I was secretly super nervous)
  • see that little platform over there?  that's where we need to get to
  •  and that one too
  • here I go!
*many of these photos courtesy of Rafting Argentina photographer (we bought the CD)
we were in a group with another couple, and had two guides with us the whole time
very safe and professional

  • we crossed that big, brown river
  • we did 6 lines in all (totaling 5000 feet of cable, as high as over 130 feet above the valley...longest cable was over 1500 feet long, crossing the Mendoza River)...really enjoyed the whole experience...
  • the last one was across the big brown river and we had the option of going double with one of the guides who tipped us upside down...thrilling!

  • we had some time to spend at the grounds before heading back to Mendoza City, so we ordered lunch
  • little picada appetizer before we enjoyed some ravioli and lomo while soaking up our final moments amongst the mountains

  • we cut it a little close with the flight...only complaint about Rafting Argentina was that they told us we'd be back to our hotel by 1, weren't actually back until 3, therefore not leaving enough time to A. do a little shopping before the flight and B. check the corkscrew I bought at a winery that security wouldn't let me carry on (come on!)
  • nonetheless, AMAZING trip with a good mix of wine, food, relaxation, and fun...what more could we want?
  • *for future reference, if I were to plan our itinerary differently, I would have had us do our second wine tour day (to vineyards closer to Mendoza City) on the day we flew out...that way our tour guide could've driven us straight to the airport...then we'd have a full day in the mountains ;)
